RW Short: The Huddle

Saturday, June 28th, 2014

“Come on Jim!” shouted Greg, eager to move on. Jim swam after him, not wanting to leave the beautiful coral behind. “Jim, I told you to stay with me!” exclaimed Greg. Greg was a very impatient fish, who didn’t like to wait for long periods of time. “Sorry, Dad” said Jim. “I was really addicted to that coral.” Unlike his father, Jim could wait around for long periods of time, even admiring the most boring things.

Jim and Greg swam on through the coral until they finally met their group. Strangely, they were all a bit quiet. “Whats up fellas?!” said Greg, excited to get going. “Shh!” said Maria. “Bob was chased here by a shark, and he didn’t know where it went.” Then, out of the darkness, emerged a very large mouth. All of the fish immediately got into a huddle. Then, there was a loud belch, and all of the fish were swallowed.

Apart from Jim, who was in the toilet.

Loom bands – what’s so good about them?

Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

Loom bands – they’re the tiny colourful rubber bands that have become a massive craze around the world.

Boys and girls are spending hours weaving them into everything from bracelets to skipping ropes.

But some schools have started banning loom bands for various reasons, including playground fights, mess and them even being used as weapons.

The Duchess of Cambridge and Harry Styles are among the famous people spotted wearing loom band bracelets.

Catch Newsround on Thursday morning from 7.40am where Ricky will have a special report into the loom band phenomenon.

Friends!

Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

Having a friend around is like having the sunshine in the sky, even when it’s raining. When your friend is not there with you, she/he is always in your heart. Having a friend missing is like the world without the sun. When your friend is there with you, she/he stays there with you.

To me, a friend is someone is loves you for who you are, someone who’s kind and caring towards you. A friend should be helpful, loving, generous and thoughtful. Friends should smile with you, laugh and chat with you, they should love with you. If you’re a true friend you will stand by your best friend, and all your friends, no matter what is happening. If you’re a good friend you will comfort your friends when they are sad or angry, and even stressed. If you’re a best friend you will help your friends to learn for themselves, but give them encouragement and help when they need it. If you’re a best friend you will share the same thoughts, feel the same pain and love the happy moments together. If you’re a friend…you will be a friend forever!

I have many friends, but the friend that stands out to me most is my best friend. She is my best friend because she is all of the good things she can be; she is full of love and joy and empty of sadness and anger. My best friend is Lucy P!  People may say you can only have one best friend, but I believe you can have as many best friends as you want, as long as you’re happy.

Give it a go!

Countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina

Monday, June 16th, 2014

Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the seven former states of Yugoslavia. It takes up 19,741 square meters and has a population of about  3,871,643, which is less than half the population of London. Don’t forget that this number is ever-changing. It’s capital city is Sarajevo, which has a small population of 369,534 people, which is just less than the population of Bristol.

The flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina has a blue background and white stars, which symbolise that the country is in the EU. (European Union) The yellow triangle, which is a right-angled triangle, stands for equality between the three main religions that are within Bosnia. It’s capital city,  Sarajevo has many tourist attractions, like: Latin Bridge, Emperor’s Mosque and the Cathedral of Jesus’ Heart. In fact, in the travel guide Lonely Planet, Sarajevo was voted 43rd best city in  the WORLD!  Also, in 2009, it was listed as one of the top ten cities to visit.

Bosnia and Herzegovina is almost landlocked. There is a small, 12-mile stretch of land that is open to the Adriatic sea.  One interesting thing about this is: the fact that it ‘Interrupts’ Croatia. Just look at this map here:

Did you see it? If not look again! This is quite interesting as it must have been formed when the country gained  Independence in 1992. What is even MORE fascinating is that one of Croatia’s most popular Towns, Dubrovnik is on that stretch of land.

The country has a strong military and air force, which contains up to 45 aircraft. It has a VERY small navy, consisting of two patrol boats that often visit Croatian ports. Bosnia and Herzegovina has a good football team, who qualified for the 2014 World Cup. Football is the most popular sport in the country, as it has been played there since 1903. Also, Bosnia and Herzegovina has a chess team, making it one of the very few countries to do so.

Costa Rica vs Uruguay match report 100wc #37

Sunday, June 15th, 2014

On Saturday the 14th of June 2014 Costa Rica won 3-1 against Uruguay ,but that’s what happens in Brazil when Costa Rica play their A game! It was a brilliant match, to start with it was 1-0 to Uruguay (by a penalty) then Costa Rica scored a cracking goal from the edge of the box! Then from a free kick someone got there head on it and scored (but also got kicked in the face)! The final goal was when a Costa Rica player just passed it into the goal – fantastic! which left Costa Rica with a joyful and exciting win but also a sad and depressing loss for Uruguay.

Update #3

Thursday, June 12th, 2014

Hello, 6E!

First of all, Robin’s 100wc from week #35 was chosen for the showcase: a selection of some of the best submitted pieces from that week! Apparently there is a badge and/or certificate as a reward. I’m looking into it!

The world cup is starting! Even for those of you who don’t enjoy the football, I strongly recommend checking out the opening ceremony.

It is sports afternoon tomorrow. Thankfully, I am feeling much better, so I will be back in class tomorrow. Remember to wear your house colours, and wish the best of luck to those people representing our school at the athletics competition.

100wc #36 By Rosie

Thursday, June 12th, 2014

I ran in the kitchen, shocked by the noise and  mess that was absolutely every where. How could this happen? There were at least a million little elves, all dressed in yellow and pink outfits, dancing around on my kitchen table. I soon guessed that they were the  ” crème egg elves “. I knew this because all of my wonderful  and delicious crème eggs had vanished into these greedy elves bellies.  After a while, I had realised that this hadn’t happened before, it had happened several times, first when the flying fairies came and ate my cakes, but now this too!

A smashing crime 100wc #36

Sunday, June 8th, 2014

“This is smashing! We finally found out the robbers, let’s go get them!” exclaimed one of the tall skinny police officers. As their blue and red sirens went off, they stormed down the road in their police cars. About 10 minutes later they arrived at the apartment, “It’s the police OPEN UP!” shouted the shortest police officer. Breaking through the door, the police had their guns out ,but to their surprise, the robber had his gun out. Unfortunately ,for him, he was out numbered. 10 day later he was guilty for robbing from a cream egg and sentence to 5 months in prison.

100wc Week #36 08/06/2014

Sunday, June 8th, 2014

I quickly ran through the meteors. I couldn’t believe that the Cream Volcano could erupt like this! I soon realised that I needed shelter, so I started to run towards a mine. I sat down inside, listening to all of the cream-egg meteors that were coming down.  In the mine entrance, there was an old TV. On the TV was the news reporter, Richard Dandson. The volume was very low, but I heard him mention that the eruption could go on for the rest of the night!

I had to come to terms with things, so I started to sleep.

100wc 5 words

Thursday, June 5th, 2014

Me and my friends are running towards this big black and scary gateway when we come across a bridge not just any bridge, a small wobbly bridge hanging over a 150 foot cliff. Me and my friends had to cross this bridge without falling, but then one of my friends decided to play a game and started to rock the bridge but then one of the ropes snapped luckily most of them survived but now that only leaves three people on this terrible trip. Then suddenly a change in the weather turned now the three very cold people are left to get home, but who will save them?

Congratulations!

Thursday, June 5th, 2014

Well done to Rachel for a fantastic result in a recent competitive run she took part in. Find out more in celebration assembly tomorrow. We’re all proud of you! 🙂

100wc #35: it’s a mystery

Thursday, June 5th, 2014

Running through the jungle with two my friends, we saw many different animals such as: moneys, snakes and even tiger. While running through the jungle, we saw a massive red and blue gateway! We all asked the same question, what was in it? After about five minutes we went in, it was extremely cold and we all had to wear our jumpers and coats. Then we saw a man walk by he had a tall black hat and a red suit. We all hid behind the stairs luckily we were quick enough ,but one of my friends hit their head and it all went black…

100wc Week #35: cemetery

Thursday, June 5th, 2014

I am running. I am not sure from what, but I am running. I think I am with my friend, but I can’t remember, like the way I  can’t remember what I am running from, only that it jumped out of the black at us.

When I think we have escaped, I slow down, only to feel cold steel brush past my hand. When I look up cautiously, the steel takes the shape of a gateway, which immediately reminds me of a nearby cemetery. Curious of how it got here, I slowly open the gate and on the other side see… the back of my house.

100wc week #35: The Garden of Magic

Wednesday, June 4th, 2014

As soon as my friend and I entered the mystical gateway, we had some sort of strange feeling. Everywhere we looked there were magical plants twisting around the old, derelict statues of people we didn’t recognize. Cold, running water trickled down a gentle stream with miniature, magic Koi carp swimming gently around in the pool at the bottom. There was a small cobbled path leading up to the Masters tower. Its roof was jet black and walls were dark purple. Vines crept round the trellis tunnel. Flying around were tiny Fairy’s that did the good warlocks bidding. The day we spent there was truly magical.

The Rivals: RMS Aquitania vs RMS Majestic

Wednesday, June 4th, 2014

RMS Majestic was 291 meters long and 31 meters wide. She was operated by White Star Line ever since the end of World War 1. From 1914 until 1935 she was the largest ship in the world. Like most liners, she was on the Southampton – New York route. Majestic was popular for her large dining room and her swimming pool, which was located on the lower decks.

RMS Aquitania was 274 meters long and 30 meters wide. She was operated by Cunard Line ever since she was built in 1914. Aquitania was considered to be one of  the most beautiful ships ever built. Aquitania was on the Southampton – New York route during most of her lifetime. At the time, Aquitania was the only ocean liner to have an open-air swimming pool.

The ship at the top is Majestic, the one at the bottom is Aquitania. Which one will you choose for your Atlantic Crossing?

Chocolate

Wednesday, June 4th, 2014

I absolutely love chocolate, epically mint areo bubble! I do not know why but nearly everybody has a weak spot for chocolate, and sweets.  I think the most popular chocolates are quality streets because at Christmas the majority of the family’s in the UK always have them for a little treat.  You find chocolate almost everywhere: croissants, milkshakes, chocolate bars and accusingly cake. Here is a little chocolate quiz to see who the biggest chocolate lover in 6E is!

Question One

How many different flavours of the “chocolate orange” are there, and what are they?

Question Two

Which m&m’s are in the blue packet?

A.  Crunchy  B. Chocolate  C. Peanut

Question Three

Is the flavour raspberry in the crazy sours skittles pack?

Please leave your answers in a comment and I will check them, if you get them all right you are the biggest chocolate lover in 6E!

“Hello hello?” Brain the troll called thought the open window “are you in?”

I rushed down stairs to let him in to find he was already in my sitting room, oddly he was watch ‘How to Kill a Troll’. After around 10 minutes of watching this he HAD to turn it off because it was giving Joe (the friend who was running after Brain) and me ideas.

An Icy Adventure: Chapter 1

Wednesday, June 4th, 2014

An Icy Adventure

Chapter 1

I felt a cold breeze coming through the open window. This usually happened, especially in the winter mornings. I slowly opened my eyes only to see my cat, Winter, on my bed. I have never liked that cat ever since it vomited on my model ship. When Katlin had brought her home from the brambles, she begged and begged me to let us keep her. I had to say yes; otherwise she would never like me.

I quietly slipped out of bed and trundled into the bathroom so I could brush my teeth. Our bathroom was small and cramped, but it did its job. I took my old toothbrush from its handle and brushed my teeth. I quickly glanced at the clock. It was half past six! This was not good! I was meeting Jake at 7! I dropped my toothbrush, cleaned my mouth and quickly dashed over to my wardrobe.

Luckily I could find my favourite T-shirt: the green stripy one. Once I had my clothes on, I scribbled out a note and laid it next to my sister Katlin, who was asleep, so she would know where I was. I opened the door and tiptoed out. I gazed around me. Every single one of the houses was covered in snow. I was tempted to clear all the doors, but I didn’t have time.

I swiftly walked down the pathway to the main road. You couldn’t even tell that it was a road, due to the snow. Them, I heard loud gunfire coming from behind me. I put on my coat’s hood and started to run. Whatever this gunfire was, I didn’t want to be caught in it!

Suddenly, snow began to fall and it was getting in my eyes, but I continued, determined to meet Jake. I ran and ran until I was out of breath, then I heard more gunfire. Now, I was really scared! I continued to run and run, even though I couldn’t see where I was going. Then, I heard a slight shuffle behind me.

I glanced behind my back, to make sure no-one was following me. Then, I looked in front of myself. I saw the massive ice Temple. I was cold, so I shivered slightly, and walked inside. I heard running water coming from the cliff next to me. I gazed around in wonder. Cautiously, I continued walking forward, hoping I wouldn’t stand on any weak bits of ice.

My friend, who is called Jake, was supposed to be meeting me just inside the temple but he wasn’t there. I looked down the path. There was nothing but a small black dot.  I started to walk closer to investigate!

100wc Week #35: The Escape From The Black Knight

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014

Like a horse, my friend (Tyler) and I ran through the gloomy grounds of the Black Knight’s Castle. We had just tried to rescue my friends from the Black Knight but, being unsuccessful, Merlin will not be pleased with how it turned out.

After 10 minutes of running, we came across a gateway. It was very cold and, as it was the dead of night, the sky was pitch black.

Our next obstacle was the scariest of them all… the Forbidden Forest. No one in the history of Camelot has ever dared to venture into the Forest, that’s why I AM going to be the first!

100wc Week #35: One Day!

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014

One day, I was walking gracefully home with my best friend (Lucy P). We were so eager to arrive home we starting speed walking, then jogging and then finally started running as fast as we could.  By the time we had got home, it was very very chilli, even though we had the heating on full blast we both still felt cold! Because we had run out of pasta sauce for our tea, Lucy and I were asked to walk to the shops to get some. We walked through the black and rusty gateway, arrived at the shops, got what we needed then ran home.
